Our Services
Holistic podiatry care for every stage of life
At Austral Podiatry, we take a holistic approach to foot and lower limb health - because pain, discomfort, and mobility issues rarely exist in isolation. Every treatment begins with understanding your body’s movement, lifestyle, and goals, so we can provide care that’s practical, evidence-based, and tailored to you.
Whether it’s relieving everyday discomfort, supporting recovery from injury, or helping your child grow and move comfortably, our aim is simple: to help you feel better with every step.
Orthodics
-
At Austral Podiatry, we create custom orthotics to help restore comfort and alignment from the ground up.
Whether you’re managing heel pain, flat feet, or sports injuries, orthotics can help improve movement and reduce strain across the body.
-
Orthotics can make a big difference in how you move and feel, helping with:
Heel pain (including plantar fasciitis)
Flat feet or arch pain
Bunions and pressure related discomfort
Forefoot pain (metatarsalgia)
Knee, hip, or lower back pain linked to poor foot mechanics
Sports injuries caused by overuse or misalignment
Diabetic Foot Assessments
-
For people living with diabetes, regular foot checks are essential. Our comprehensive assessments help detect changes early, reduce the risk of ulcers or infection, and provide guidance on maintaining healthy, protected feet long term.
Why it matters:
High blood sugar can reduce circulation and damage nerves, making it harder to feel injuries and slower to heal. Small problems can quickly become serious if not caught early. -
Regular check-ups: We assess blood flow and nerve function to monitor foot health.
Education & advice: We teach you how diabetes affects your feet and how to care for them.
Footwear guidance: We help you choose shoes that protect and support your feet.
Ulcer prevention: We identify pressure points and skin changes before they become a problem.
Collaborative care: We work with your GP and other health professionals to manage chronic wounds if needed.
Fungal Toenails & Tinea Pedis
-
Fungal infections are persistent, often affecting both the nails and surrounding skin. We take a practical, patient-focused approach - reducing thickened nails, applying targeted treatments, and supporting your recovery over time.
These infections are caused by dermatophytes, a type of fungus that can affect both the nails and the skin of your feet. They’re surprisingly common and can be picked up in places like communal showers, nail salons, swimming pools and locker rooms.
What do fungal infections look like?
Fungal toenails may become thick, discoloured, brittle, or crumbly.
Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) often causes itchy, peeling, or cracked skin - especially between the toes.
These conditions can be uncomfortable and may prevent people from wearing open shoes due to embarrassment or sensitivity.
-
How we treat fungal infections at Austral Podiatry:
Clearing the infected nail: We carefully reduce the thickness and remove damaged nail tissue to improve comfort and allow treatments to work better.
Topical treatments: We’ll recommend nail lacquers, ointments, or creams based on your specific needs.
Consistent care: Because fungal infections are persistent, we offer regular treatment sessions to stay on top of the condition and monitor progress.
We tailor every treatment plan to the individual, because we know that managing fungal infections takes time, patience, and the right support.
Calluses, Corns & Blisters
-
These common issues are more than surface level, they can cause real discomfort and affect how you move. We treat calluses, corns, and blisters gently and effectively, relieving pressure while helping to prevent recurrence through better footwear and skin care.
What’s the difference?
Callus: A thick, yellowish patch of hard skin, often found on weight-bearing areas like the plantar heel. These can become dry, cracked, unsightly and may even become infected.
Corn: A small, deeper cone of hard skin that presses into the foot. A common spot is the outside of the little toe, where shoes often rub, making corns especially painful in tight or narrow footwear.
Blister: A fluid-filled bubble that forms when skin is repeatedly rubbed or irritated. Blisters can develop from new shoes, long walks, or poorly fitting footwear. They can also be caused by certain skin conditions, such as eczema or dermatitis, which make the skin more fragile and prone to break down.
-
Safe removal: We gently reduce calluses and remove corns using a sterile scalpel.
Blister care: We provide advice on protecting and treating blisters to prevent infection and promote healing.
Pressure relief: We may use protective padding or recommend orthotics to reduce pressure and prevent recurrence.
Footwear & skin care advice: We’ll guide you on choosing better shoes and using the right creams to keep your skin healthy.
Ingrown Toenails
-
Ingrown toenails can make everyday activities painful and difficult. We focus on gentle, effective care - from conservative management to minor procedures, to relieve discomfort and reduce the risk of recurrence.
What causes ingrown nails?
Curved nail shape
Tight or poorly fitting shoes
Incorrect nail cutting
Pressure from walking or sports
-
How we help:
Conservative care: We gently remove the nail edge causing pain and provide advice on nail care and wound healing.
Advanced treatment: For recurring issues, we may recommend a partial nail avulsion. This minor procedure removes part of the nail and applies a chemical to stop it from growing back, offering long-term relief.
Sports Podiatry
-
We understand how lower limb pain can impact performance, recovery, and everyday activity. Through biomechanical assessments, targeted therapy, and orthotic support, we help you move comfortably, whether you’re in training or just staying active.
Common conditions we treat include:
Shin splints
Heel pain (including plantar fasciitis)
Achilles tendinitis
Ankle sprains
Bursitis
Sesamoiditis
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
Lower back pain linked to poor foot mechanics
-
Manual therapy: Hands-on techniques to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and support recovery.
Stretching & strengthening exercises: Target weak or tight muscles to restore balance and prevent re-injury.
Biomechanical assessments: We analyse how your body moves to identify patterns that may be contributing to pain or injury.
Footwear & orthotic advice: We help you choose the right shoes and provide custom orthotics to support proper alignment during activity.
Referral for imaging: If necessary, we can refer you for X-rays, ultrasounds, or other diagnostic tests to better understand the cause of your pain and guide treatment
Nail Deformities
-
Changes to your toenails can be caused by anything from pressure and footwear to injuries or fungal infections. We provide gentle, professional care to restore comfort, reduce pain, and improve both the appearance and function of your nails. At Austral Podiatry, we treat a wide range of nail concerns, including:
Thickened nails
Brittle or crumbly nails
Abnormally shaped nails
Discolouration or colour changes
-
Common causes we treat:
Fungal infections: These can make nails thick, crumbly, and discoloured.
Injuries: Trauma from sports, dropping something on the toe, or repetitive pressure can lead to nail changes.
Biomechanical pressure: Repeated stress from walking or toe shape can affect nail growth, for example, hammer toes.
Skin conditions: Psoriasis and other systemic issues can impact nail texture and appearance.
How we help:
Gentle nail care: We safely thin thickened nails to relieve pressure and improve appearance.
Targeted treatments: We may recommend lacquers, creams, or ointments depending on the cause.
Prevention advice: We assess your footwear and walking style to reduce ongoing stress on your nails.
Plantar Warts
-
Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can appear suddenly on the soles of the feet, often picked up in shared spaces like pools, gyms, or locker rooms. They can be painful when walking and easily spread to other areas or people.
What do they look like?
Rough, grainy skin with tiny black dots (clotted blood vessels)
Thickened skin or callus over the wart
Pain when pressure is applied
-
How we treat plantar warts at Austral Podiatry:
Debridement: We gently shave back the thickened skin covering the wart to expose the lesion.
Topical therapy: A chemical is applied to stimulate your body’s natural immune response, helping it fight off the virus.
Ongoing care: Warts can be persistent, so we monitor your progress and adjust treatment as needed.
Children’s Foot Health
-
Children’s feet are constantly growing and changing, and early care can prevent long-term issues. We assess growth, development, and gait, helping parents understand what’s normal, what needs attention, and how to best support their child’s comfort and movement.
What we do:
Growth & development checks: We assess how your child’s feet and legs are growing and moving.
Collaborative care: We work with other health professionals to identify and manage concerns early.
Treatment for common childhood conditions:
Ingrown toenails
Flat feet
In-toeing or out-toeing
Toe walking
Knocked knees
Growing pains, including:
Sever’s disease: Heel pain caused by inflammation at the growth plate in the heel, common in active children.
Osgood-Schlatter disease: Pain and swelling just below the knee, often seen in sporty adolescents during growth spurts.
-
Footwear advice: We guide you on choosing shoes that support growing feet.
Orthotics: When needed, we provide inserts to improve alignment and comfort.
Exercise programs: Help strengthen muscles and improve movement patterns.
Education & reassurance: We help parents understand what’s normal, what needs attention, and how to support their child’s development.
